He was the leader of a Nietzschean craft that somehow made its way through the Route of Ages into the Seefra System. While trying to make it to Seefra-5, Beka Valentine cuts them off and she gets them to come aboard her ship.
Using the Alpha card, she gets them to spoil her, but Zayas then feeds her exotic berries that are tainted with a form of paralytic so that he and his crew can take the Eureka Maru for themselves.
They were eventually subdued by Doyle and retakes the Maru. ("One More Day's Light")
