The To Seek, To Find class High Endurance Research Cruiser (HRC) is the heart of the High Guard's intergalactic exploration efforts. Capable of long-term, independent operations far from established Slipstream portals in uncharted regions of space, the High Endurance Research Cruisers are equipped for the study of any new scientific phenomenon or research opportunity. Although well armed in the interest of their own self-defense, these vessels are crewed primarily by civilian scientists and engineers. Traditionally, the commanding officer of a High Endurance Research Cruiser is also the Chief Scientist and is supported by an Argosy executive officer who oversees the crew and combat operations. A High Endurance Research Cruiser can be recalled for combat duty, but only in the direst emergencies.

The Starry Wisdom is the only To Seek, To Find class referenced by name in the series, although several unnamed ships appear in later episodes.

  • The name of the class is taken from the last line of the Tennyson poem "Ulysses",
    • "Though much is taken, much abides; and though
    • We are not now that strength which in old days
    • Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
    • One equal temper of heroic hearts,
    • Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
    • To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."
