"The Heart of the Journey (Part 2)" is episode 22 of Season 5.
Synopsis[]
The Andromeda Ascendant rescues Seamus Harper from the destruction of Earth which is revealed to have been done by a Nietzschean fleet working with the Spirit of the Abyss. Andromeda returns to Tarazed to prepare for the Battle of Tarazed and all of the crew decide to stay and help fight rather than run except for Telemachus Rhade who chooses to remain on Tarazed to protect his family. The Battle of Tarazed begins with the Nietzcheans attacking and Andromeda doing her best to defend the planet. Beka Valentine goes back for Rhade and is unable to convince him to return to the Andromeda, so she returns to the ship alone. Beka tries to invoke her right as the Alpha Matriarch of the Nietzchean race to get them to stop the attack at least long enough for her to reach the Andromeda, but fails so Andromeda covers her. Maura attacks Dylan Hunt, revealing herself to be an Avatar of the Abyss and the one who destroyed the Paradines. Dylan isn't able to defeat her, but Trance Gemini arrives and tells Dylan to take Andromeda back through the Route of Ages which had opened nearby to the Seefra System. Dylan gives the order and as Andromeda travels to Seefra, the Abyss destroys Maura for failure. At Seefra, Dylan comes up with a plan: examining the Methus Plate, he realizes that it describes a way to destroy the Abyss using the Vedran sun. Suddenly a second Trance tesseracts to the Command Center and demands Dylan kill the first, claiming it to be the imposter. After hesitating, Dylan shoots the first Trance who reveals herself to be Virgil Vox. Virgil Vox taunts the crew until Dylan shoots her again, killing her. Dylan reveals he knew which Trance was which because the real Trance was crying and the Abyss has no emotions. Andromeda flies into the Route of Ages, with Trance pulling her sun behind it. In the Route, the Abyss begins to emerge, but Andromeda plunges into it, pulling the sun behind her. Thanks to Beka's piloting, Andromeda flies through the route while the Vedran Sun destroys the Abyss. As the crew soak in their victory, the Route of Ages transforms into a normal Slipstream portal which the Systems Commonwealth fleet emerges from. Tarn-Vedra has rejoined the Known Worlds. Rhade hails Andromeda and reveals that he and his family are fine and asks for help as he's low on fuel. Beka and Doyle head out to pick him up in the Eureka Maru, while Trance and Harper prepare sick bay for injured. Realizing Dylan wants to be alone, Rommie leaves too. Dylan soaks in the fact that its over and he's home.
Trivia[]
- Dylan's emphasis on the fact that he is finally home would seem to suggest parallels for the series as a whole with Homer's "Odyssey".
Memorable Quotes[]
Dylan Hunt: Yes! Andromeda, I know winning isn't everything, but I sure could get used to this feeling.
