Overview

The Eternal Vigilance class Long Range Surveillance (LRS) ship provides the eyes and ears for a Heavy Cruiser Battle Group and Planetfall Readiness Group. Equipped with multiple arrays of high-powered active and passive sensor suites, the LRS is ideal for providing early-warning of impending attack or the strategic positioning of enemy vessels. In doing so, it continually enhances battlegroup track correlation as well as improving the efficiency of offensive and defensive operations. Although lightly armed, the LRS is equipped with Low Observability technology, which reduces its vulnerability to attack. In addition, the smaller mass of the LRS, combined with an impressively powerful Antiproton power plant, allows for rapid acceleration and maneuverability from high threat situations. The LRS can also be employed as an effective intergalactic exploration platform, since its ability to gather and process data has as much use for scientific pursuits as for combat operations.

• "Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom" is a variation of a quote by Thomas Jefferson. Jefferson meant that the public must observe the government for signs that it is violating the individual's liberty. Here it refers to a High Guard ship used to monitor the enemies of the Systems Commonwealth government.
